Network Engineer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Network Engineer for an initial 3 month contract on a rate of £375-£435/day (Inside IR35). These roles will be hybrid working with at least one day per week in the office in Edinburgh. 
 
Responsibilities: 
 
– Overall systems management and service-wide configuration of the services.  
– Second line service support to the organisation at large, and specialist support to the rest of the Communications Infrastructure Services.  
– Service level management, capacity management, service continuity and availability management, including planning for hardware/software/services refresh.  
– Detailed design and development of the communications infrastructure and related/supporting services, and the management and implementation of service migration/transition projects.  
– Supplier management, including contract management and procurement actions.  
– Provision of technical leadership, including strategic awareness and advice to management.  
– Ensuring security measures are developed and applied consistently and effectively across the network to protect communications infrastructure, including incident response functions.  
– Maintain awareness of rapidly evolving technology and best practice. 
 
Essential Skills: 
 
– A University degree in a technical area together with a minimum of four years’ relevant experience; or at least ten years’ relevant technical experience, demonstrating involvement in progressively more demanding technical roles.  
– Excellent knowledge and experience of network switching and routing.  
­ At least five years’ experience of and substantial expertise data networks, including the detailed operation of the Internet Protocol (IP) and a wide range of higher-level protocols, network equipment, architecture and design, network security, and the Unix operating system.  
– At least five years’ experience of the operational management and service delivery of a data or significant part thereof.  
– Excellent general IT skills, with expert-level detailed and comprehensive knowledge and skills in relevant specialist areas.  
– Excellent diagnostic, fault-finding and problem-solving skills in relevant highly technical areas.  
– Excellent communication and team working skills.  
– Ability to respond quickly to events.  
– Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision  
– Flexible approach to working hours  
 
Desirable Skills: 
 
– Routing and switching, preferably with HPE/Aruba equipment 
– BGP and OSPF 
– CCNA or equivalent (i.e. ACSA or ACMA) qualification in networking (wired and wireless), network security or telephony 
– Prince2 or other project management qualification 
– Experience of Prince2 within an IT environment  
– Experience of ITIL within IT Service Delivery   
– Experience of Data Centre Networking technologies  
– Exposure to networking automation technologies  
– Experience of hosted telephony and contact centre operations.  
– Experience of MS Teams integration with VoIP platform 
– Ability and eagerness to meet new objectives and learn new skills.  
– Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues and peers across the sector.  
 
Experience managing or operating key network technologies: 
– HPE 12904 and 5945 (Commware) Switches 
– Aruba 2930 (AOS 8) Switches 
– Aruba WiFi 
– Fortinet Fortigate Firewalls, FortiAnalyser 
– Aruba ClearPass 
– Aruba Airwave and HPE IMC
