SME Oracle DBA
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a SME Oracle DBA for an initial 6-month contract with the potential to extend at a rate of £500/day (Outside IR35). This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
– Serve as the subject matter expert for Oracle database architecture throughout the migration process.
– Ensure Oracle production databases are properly mirrored in AWS while maintaining data integrity and high performance.
– Collaborate with the Cloud Architect to define and implement database replication strategies and configurations in AWS.
– Provide guidance on schema optimisation, indexing strategies, and performance tuning for Oracle databases in the cloud environment.
– Identify and address Oracle-specific issues encountered during the migration and propose actionable solutions.
– Support the design and implementation of database monitoring and optimisation tools in AWS.
Essential Skills:
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
– 5+ years of experience managing and optimising Oracle databases in production environments.
– Proven expertise in Oracle database architecture, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
– Hands-on experience with database replication and migration to cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
– Strong understanding of AWS services relevant to databases, such as RDS, EC2, and S3.
– Proficiency in Oracle-specific tools and technologies (e.g., RMAN, Data Pump, Oracle RAC).
– Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Desirable Skills:
– AWS Certified Data Analytics or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification.
– Experience in transitioning from Oracle to alternative cloud-native database solutions.
– Knowledge of cost optimisation strategies to minimise Oracle licensing costs in the cloud.
