Senior Improvement and Transformation Lead
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Cambridge / Bedfordshire is currently looking to recruit a Senior Improvement and Transformation Lead for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £25.16/hour PAYE – working 37.5 hours per week. This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
 
Responsibilities:
 
– Design the transformation blueprint providing the strategic and comprehensive plan which outlines the key elements, goals, and steps required to achieve a significant organisational/service transformation.
– Select and apply the most appropriate design or improvement methodology for addressing complex improvement challenges in a complex transformation context. Support and mentor others in navigating and selecting the most effective approach in addressing complex challenges.
– Design and facilitate workshops/design sessions with stakeholders and team members to generate and assess innovative solutions.
– Develop, plan, and lead the implementation of large-scale transformation programmes, aligning initiatives with organisational objectives and system priorities. Ensuring interdependencies are identified and managed, impact measures/benefits, resources, timescales, risk, issues, and assumptions.
– Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to transformation, fostering engagement and commitment across the organisation and system partners.
– Produce highly complex and comprehensive updates regarding delivery, progress, risks, issues, and decisions required presenting these to senior and executive forums as appropriate and choosing different methods to communicate this information.
– Identify, collaborate, and work with internal teams and partners to source resource required to deliver the programme/s.
– Identify, plan, and ensure analysis of highly complex data and intelligence to inform the design and delivery of the programme/s including advising and collaborating with data scientists on modelling analysis required.
– Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information to senior managers, clinical and operational staff and external agencies/partners. Requiring high level skills in negotiation, persuasion, motivation, and reassurance.
– Represent the organisation at senior system transformation forums and meetings, engaging, participating in transformation initiatives, representing and advocating for the organisation’s portfolio of services and supporting the delivery of system wide improvements to local healthcare services.
– Act as the lead expert and advisor on redesign and improvement science.
– Leverage advanced subject matter expertise in improvement science, change management, and programme management to offer guidance to senior leaders on strategic improvement and transformation goals, challenges, and opportunities.
– Stay current on the latest advancements in healthcare improvement, incorporating innovative technologies and methodologies into improvement plans and strategies.
– Continuously evaluate and enhance improvement approaches and techniques adapting to the organisation’s evolving needs. Ensuring that changes are measured and evaluated, leading to meaningful and impactful improvements.
– Actively contribute to the progression of improvement science within the organisation and the wider healthcare community.
– Ensure continual advancement in communication and engagement strategy and approach across improvement and transformation efforts. Share the purpose, details, implementation, and impact of changes, involving stakeholders as partners from the outset, and showcasing the results of improvement work.
– Support the Assistant Director with the development of strategic improvement and transformation plans, ensuring alignment to integrated care system and national agendas.
– Support the delivery of CCS’s QI framework and approach, including the continual development of existing approaches and the creation of new ways to increase improvement capabilities of the organisation and supporting the embedding of a continuous improvement culture.
– Oversee programme/project budgets where external funding has been obtained to deliver transformation programmes.
– Continually ensure effective use of resources both within the Improvement and Transformation Team and across the organisation.
– Ensure transformation programmes have appropriate benefit realisation management arrangements in place and the financial impact of changes is quantified.
– Take the lead in ensuring the team’s improvement and transformation efforts involve benchmarking, learning from external sources, and incorporating emerging changes in care models and technology into comprehensive plans.
– Conduct thorough research to seek out and interpret national guidance and best practices.
– Lead the design and active contribution to conferences, public engagement events, and workshops aimed at supporting the evolution of new service models.
 
Essential Skills:
 
– Educated to Master’s Degree level or able to demonstrate experience to this level.
– Evidence of continuing professional development/education and learning.
– Improvement methodology qualification (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma) or accredited training.
– Change management qualification or accredited training.
– Experience in a senior management role leading a team of improvement specialists.
– Experience of developing improvement strategies and frameworks.
– Experience of successfully delivering large scale and complex redesign programmes in either the private or public sector.
– Extensive experience of improvement science, change management, service design/inclusive design methodologies/techniques to successfully design complex improvement initiatives.
– Experience of designing and fostering a culture of innovation and improvement within teams and across organisations including building improvement capability.
– Experience of senior level engagement, forming networks and strong relationships with key stakeholders/partners.
– Extensive knowledge and skills in various improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, or others.
– End-to-end service design process, ensuring a user-centric approach and alignment with business goals.
– Ability to work on multiple programmes/projects with multiple stakeholders at any one time
– Ability to encourage and drive innovative approaches to improvement, leveraging the latest methodologies and technologies.
– Excellent interpersonal skills – able to build genuine and effective relationships with colleagues internally and externally.
– Ability to use tact, diplomacy, negotiation and persuasion particularly when dealing with challenging situations and leading people through change.
– Advanced problem solving, decision-making, consulting and negotiating skills, able to identify and manage conflict.
– Ability to prioritise, organise and plan own workload, and that of the team, effectively and respond to changing priorities positively.
– Ability to analyse complex data and direct the appropriate analysis required for complex improvements/transformation programmes.
 
Desirable Skills:
 
– Design thinking training/qualification (inclusive/human centred design) or accredited training.
– Leadership qualification
– Programme/project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2, Agile, MSP).
– Experience in a research/think tank organisation.
