Content Designer (Accessibility Specialist)
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Content Designer (Accessibility Specialist) until March 2026 with option to extend on a rate of £224.35 – £241.57/day (Inside IR35). This role will be mainly working from home with just one day a week in the office required (Monday).
Responsibilities:
– Reporting to the Senior Digital Manager, you will work as part of an in-house team to deliver innovative solutions across a variety of digital media.
– Working with a variety of internal clients, stakeholders and suppliers to deliver accessible digital content (including video, blogs, social media and webpages) from concept and design through to delivery.
– Review and amend content across our website, blog and social channels to ensure content consistently meets in-house accessibility standards
– Use our CMS to manage and maintain our website, using data to optimise and work with stakeholders across the business to make recommendations and implement changes.
– Advise colleagues on accessibility best practice and create and deliver accessibility training
– Use your accessibility knowledge and understanding to input into digital strategies, processes and projects
Essential Skills:
– Degree, and / or professional qualification relating to communications and / or relevant experience
– An excellent knowledge of accessibility standards and legislation
– Design content to meet user needs and make complex language and processes easy to understand
– Show an awareness of the strategic context of your work and understand why it is important
– Performs detailed audits of websites, services and documents, and document findings clearly for others to work from
– Show robust experience in writing, editing and publishing digital content, and experience in using content management systems and content production processes to publish content
– Understand who your stakeholders are, what evidence is relevant to them and the importance of managing relationships with them
– Use data, research and evidence to review and evaluate content to make improvements
– Experience providing accessibility training and support to internal clients
– Good communication and presentation skills
– Solid working knowledge of SEO optimisation and Google Analytics
– Use Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader to fix accessibility issues
– Awareness and understanding of a range of assistive technologies
Desirable Skills:
– Public sector experience
– Experience of creating accessible content and using associated monitoring tools such as Monsido
– Experience of managing websites using Umbraco
