Building Clerk of Works
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Forfar, is currently looking to recruit a Building Clerk of Works for an initial 9 month contract with option to extend on a rate of £166.97 – £180.89/day Umbrella. This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
– Monitor on-site contracts and report to the contract administrator on building services installations with regard to contract compliance, quality of workmanship, progress.
– Instruct contractors on site within the terms of the contract.
– Liaise with Contract Administrator and co-ordinate trades within separate trades contracts.
– Undertake all duties associated with the Support for Learning and Housing, acting as adviser, service provider and “landlord” representative as required. Liaise with Clients on repairs and new works, obtain estimates and quotations as required.
– Ensure that the building/fabric elements of all properties within the area, including all works undertaken and the contractors working in the properties are not in contravention of current regulations and Health and Safety practices and procedures.
– Respond to breakdowns, emergencies and other health and safety issues as required.
– Issue orders to contractors for breakdown and minor repairs, monitor work on site, carrying out inspections and verify invoice details for accuracy.
– Attend contract site meetings.
– Prepare regular contract reports, including weekly reports to the Senior Maintenance Technician.
– Produce specifications for various client services and liaise with contractors for quotations of work.
– Liaise with building users, tenants, building managers, officials or client representatives as required.
– Ensure all duties are undertaken in compliance with statutory regulations and obligations e.g. Building Regulations, Scottish Technical Standards and CDM Regulations.
– Will comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the organisation’s full privacy statement and service privacy notices.
– Will be required to undertake other duties as required.
Essential Skills:
– City and Guilds Certificate in relevant subject or an NC/HNC in relevant subject
– Required to have at least 5 years relevant post qualification experience or be formally recognised by an appropriate technical body/institution.
– Time-served in relevant trade or experience as a Clerk of Works
– Willingness to undertake mandatory information governance training
– Knowledge and understanding of building regulations
– Knowledge and understanding of CDM regulations
– Knowledge of health and safety legislation
– Ability to co-ordinate the work of different trades
– Good written communications skills
– Good oral communications skills
– Customer care skills
– Ability to work as part of a team
– Ability to organise workloads
– Ability to set and meet deadlines
– Full, current driving licence
– Access to a vehicle
– A willingness to respond to callouts as required
– Ability to work flexibly in line with workstyle description and to provide a suitable working environment if working outwith the organisation premises
Desirable Skills:
– Membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works or other relevant body/institution
– Experience of supervising staff and/or external contractors
– Good computer skills
– Good administrative skills including report writing
– Experience of administering/managing budgets
