Archive Digitisation Officer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit an Archive Digitisation Officer for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £14.86/hour with 28 hours per week (PAYE). This role will be based on site.
Responsibilities:
– Quality checking digital archival images for corruption, rotation, and file format.
– Quality checking large quantities of archival data and metadata whilst considering relevant cataloguing standards.
– Assist with the preparation of high quality images and prints from the organisation’s archive for online access, publication, exhibition, display and public orders.
– Assist with the delivery of the programme of digitisation of archive material and archiving the resultant files to standards agreed and documented by the Archive and Digital teams to ensure preservation.
– Liaison with the Conservation team to ensure safe handling of material.
– Assist with the maintenance of equipment.
– Other duties as delegated by the Head or Deputy Head of Archives.
Essential Skills:
– Demonstrable experience of digitisation of historic archive material and image manipulation.
– Drive, initiative and a methodical working approach with an attention to detail
– The ability to be a good team worker and to work with minimal supervision
– A high standard of computer literacy and IT skills including using Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
– Open to learning new skills, practices, procedures and building a knowledge of the organisation’s archives
– Ability to organise your own time and meet deadlines
– Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Skills:
– Experience of working in an archive setting.
– Knowledge of archival standards, processes and procedures.
– Demonstrable knowledge and enthusiasm for Scottish archaeology, architecture and/or history.
– Enthusiasm to communicate the work of the organisation.
– A full driving licence (staff may have to travel to remote or rural areas of Scotland, e.g. staff must liaise with depositors of archives, which is not always possible by public transport).
