Catering Assistant
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Stirling, is currently looking to recruit a Catering Assistant for an initial 7 working day contract (24th – 25th July / 28th – 1st August 2025) on a rate of £12.60/hour PAYE. This role will be based onsite in Stirling.
Responsibilities:
– Prepare and cook take-away meals and food.
– Prepare, cook and display catering for venue hire clients.
– Skilled cooking activities connected with a full range of soups and meals.
– Prepare a wide range of meals/snacks, breakfast rolls, filled rolls, paninis, soup and meals from fresh etc.
– Menu creation, portion and cost control, allergen control and awareness and the provision of special dietary foods where appropriate
– Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and non-statutory food safety Legislation processes and procedures.
– Observe hygiene, health and safety in the workplace.
– Adhere to the environmental health registration.
– Be aware of and carry out the regulations laid down in the Health and Safety at Work Act.
– Undertake any appropriate staff development/staff training as required.
– Record keeping and ordering of supplies within budget.
– Organising the ordering of provisions/stock control.
– Ensure monthly kitchen stock takes are completed, all the necessary paperwork is compiled, and stock is ordered as required in the most cost-effective manner to ensure profit margins are maximised.
– Take online orders and operate EPOS system.
– Ensure all areas within the unit are kept clean and tidy at all times (including floors, windows, work surfaces, appliances, equipment etc).
– Ensure kitchen equipment is operated correctly and any maintenance issues are reported.
– On occasion, work weekends, evenings and public holidays as required according to business demand.
– Cashing up at the end of each day and filling in appropriate paperwork.
– Carry out all paperwork as required and keep it up to date as required.
– Opening and securing the Unit at the start / end of each day.
– To undertake such other duties as may be assigned, from time to time by the Leadership Team.
Essential Skills:
– A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar environment.
– Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 1, 2 and 3 in food safety qualification.
– Experienced cooking skills.
– Experience of menu planning and food preparation.
– Knowledge of Food Hygiene Legislation, Health and Safety at Work Act.
– A sound understanding of food allergens and best practice.
– A team player with a great attitude, passionate about food, care about customer experience and quality of service.
– The ability to multi-task, prioritise, work under pressure and be able to handle a busy take away with a calm demeanour.
– Ability to work at high-speed whist delivering a top-quality service.
– Exceptional customer service skills.
