Corporate Reporting Accountant
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Corporate Planning & Reporting Accountant for an initial 3 month contract on a rate of £32.49/hour PAYE. This role will be based in Edinburgh.
 
Responsibilities:
 
– Delivers full and high quality financial and accounting services to Senior Management team and budget holders within the organisation and the Customer Boards. 
– Plan, organise, and deliver strategic 5 Year Financial Plans for Reserves, including Workforce Resource Team and Reserves balances available for investment, which impacts on the whole of the organisation and the Customer Boards.
– Organise and interpret complex data from various sources to deliver timely and effective reporting of monthly financial positions and plans, to allow informed decision making and enabling achievement of the strategic objectives of the organisation.
– Seek to routinely assess and highlight areas for enhancement to improve the quality of internal and external customer reporting; ensuring maximum benefit and key messaging.
– Provide overarching review of the capital programme, including the monitoring of expenditure and any benefits identified, against approved business cases.
– Co-ordinate and prepare all financial returns for review by Head of Business Finance prior to timely submissions of all monthly monitoring, forecasting and strategic planning returns.
– Supports the organisation efficiency savings programme ensuring all savings meet the requirements.
– Coordinate and triages customer requirements for financial advice, support and information requests and work with all areas of finance utilising knowledge and systems.
– Deliver full and high quality financial and accounting services to budget holders for all of organisation central reserves and workforce resource team (pay and non-pay) c£10m.
– Establish and operate an Financial Sustainability “Programme Management Office” (PMO) within Business Finance with an overview and tracking of all savings targets and schemes across the organisation, to help address the £14m trading deficit (Year 3)
– Supports the delivery of high quality operational and strategic financial support to all Directorates and customer Boards, ensuring a consistent, customer focussed service is provided
– To carry out any other duties as required by the organisation.
 
Essential Skills:
 
– Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB) qualified accountant, educated to a degree level or equivalent
– Extensive post qualification experience in financial and business management in a medium/large diverse organisation allowing the individual to have developed the appropriate skill set to operate effectively at a senior level.
– Demonstrable experience in managing and developing financial reporting, planning and financial management environments.
– Demonstrated capability to function effectively at a senior level.
– A consistent track record of achieving continuous business improvement.
– Good working knowledge and understanding of national policy and the impact on financial planning and control
– Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills with ability to build sound business relationships as well as solid finance relationships with management accounting teams and Business Partners.
– Excellent communication and presentation skills which required a working knowledge of IT packages including the use of spreadsheets, windows, word, excel and Powerpoint
– Ability to get out of the detail and focus on the bigger picture
– Demonstrates determination and persistence in face of challenge or conflict
– Work independently and as part of a virtual team
– High degree of analytical skills
