Finance Manager
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Aberdeen, is currently looking to recruit a Finance Manager for a 6 month contract on a salary of £50,741 – £52,995, generous benefits. Hybrid working, client happy to consider candidates who can attend occasional meetings in Aberdeen.
Responsibilities:
– Ensure the smooth operation and improvement of excellent finance systems which are responsive to the needs of operational teams and stakeholders
– Responsible for the preparation of the annual consolidated statutory accounts in line with accounting standards and regulations and principal contact with external auditors.
– Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget, in year forecasting, variance monitoring and reporting and prepare relevant financial information and reports, coach and mentor others in regard to their part in effective budget management.
– Deliver the monthly management accounts, variance monitoring and reporting and submit quarterly Accounts to lenders. Work with budget holders and provide reporting and assistance as required.
– To attend meetings of the Board or Committees and present reports as required, deputising as appropriate for the Director of Finance.
– Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset register and other fixed assets.
– Assist the Director of Finance with treasury management and Loan maintenance.
– Lead on internal audit reviews, monitor and maintain robust internal controls and segregation of duties.
– To document procedures and benchmark best practises for SORP, developing internal controls as required in order to delivery continuous improvement of Finance systems and working practices.
– To support the Director of Finance in the preparation of the 30-year projections and other financial forecasts to inform internal decision making and as required by external stakeholders
– Work on assigned and ad hoc projects, this includes forecasting and financial evaluation.
– To monitor and manage the performance and development of the (Group Accountant & Assistant Accountant) through one-to-one meetings, annual appraisal and support.
– Mentor and coach the finance team, include embedding the deal and culture of providing excellent customer service
– Provide financial information, support and advice to other staff who do not have a specific or specialised finance role.
– Identify opportunities for efficiency and value for money across immediate areas of responsibility as well as the wider business drawing on best practice and alternative approaches.
– To ensure the Group finance policies are up to date and maintained. Ensuring alignment and compliance with regulatory requirements and good practice whilst supporting wider group objectives of devolved decision making and authority.
– Lead on Finance IT projects, prepare financial appraisals for new developments, manage user acceptance testing when appropriate, upgrades and new software implementation
– To carry out all duties of this post in accordance with the relevant Group policies and procedures.
Essential Skills:
– Fully qualified accountant (CCAB recognised).
– A minimum of 6 years’ accounting experience including all aspects of financial and management accounting, preparation of management accounts and year end accounts.
– Extensive experience in a Senior Finance role.
– Experience of preparing and monitoring large departmental budgets.
– Proven ability to lead and motivate staff.
– Experience of staff management and development.
– Technical accounting and decision-making skills, knowledge of accounting standards and UK GAAP.
– Highly developed numeracy, analytical and literacy skills.
– Proven ability to lead and manage staff.
– Highly developed computer literacy, working knowledge of Microsoft packages and ability to utilise software effectively.
– Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
– Empathy and alignment to the values and culture of the organisation.
Desirable Skills:
– Experience in the management and implementation of new systems to deliver service improvement and efficiencies.
– Experience with Infor Sun system
– Experience of dealing with lending bodies
– Knowledge of legislative framework for Charities
– Good understanding of the tax environment for charitable organisations and VAT within a partially exempt business.
