Fleet Operations Manager
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Dumfries, is currently looking to recruit a Fleet Operations Manager for an initial 4 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of circa: £267/day (Inside IR35). This role will be based onsite working 5 days per week – pool car will be available.
Responsibilities:
– To support the Transport & Operations Manager, manage the relationship with our Customer’s heads of operational departments, and ensure all legal and contractual obligations are delivered.
– Report to the Transport & Operations Manager on matters affecting the safe, legal, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the workshop and vehicles, including all matters regarding health and safety, discipline, warranty and service arrangements, and absence management.
– To lead, manage, coordinate and continuously improve standards, quality, efficiency and effectiveness of Fleet Management Services by the organisation’s corporate strategies and policies
– To ensure the organisation meet their statutory responsibilities in respect of their vehicle fleets and to promote effective management of vehicle and plant assets in the discharge of their functions
– Liaise with workshops to seek solutions to operational and technical problems.
– Investigate new working practices to increase workshop cost efficiency and reduce spare parts usage.
– Trial and monitor new equipment and parts and liaise with suppliers on suitability and cost.
– Report accident damage and abuse to Fleet Compliance Officers
– Monitor overtime work and reduce downtime to ensure the effective operation of the workshop.
– Undertake workshop security and alarm procedures
– Take part in overtime working and standby arrangements as and when required.
– To ensure that the organisation’s interests are best served through safe working and efficient use of labour and spares.
– To seize any opportunity that further develops our relationships and strengthens our position within this geographical area.
– Review and monitor monthly management reports, business KPIs and financial information. In conjunction with the Transport & Operations Manager, determine strategies for continuous commercial and economic performance improvement.
– Implement best practices across all Enterprising DG Workshops.
– Manage any Budgets allocated.
– Control daily operational efficiency and provide operational and technical support to Vehicle Maintenance Workshops.
– Ensure that all workshops are manned and operated in a cost-efficient manner.
– Ensure vehicles are inspected, serviced and tested on schedule to meet Legal, Operator Licence and MOT test requirements.
– Ensure all preventative maintenance, test preparation, servicing and repairs are carried out to the standard required in compliance with all Transport and Health and Safety legislation.
Essential Skills:
– Current driver’s license
– Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or evidence of comparable experience and training.
– Operator Licence for the Traffic Commissioner
– Professional Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Vehicle Management, e.g., M I Mech E, MIRTE.
– CPC in Vehicle Management
– Documentary evidence of comprehensive Continuing Professional Development
– Extensive experience of management of large fleet of plant and vehicles
– Substantial experience as a line manager at a senior level in a relevant service, including evidence of successfully managing staffing issues, including recruitment and appraisal.
– Considerable experience and knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in a relevant environment.
– Sound experience of financial planning, analysis and control of major budgets.
– Considerable experience of working in a political environment.
– Sound experience and excellent understanding of Business Planning, Project Management, Works and Services Contract Management, Procurement Regulations, CDM Regulations and Health and Safety Regulations.
– Good understanding of Customer Care Issues, particularly in relation to the service.
– Sound understanding of the contribution that ICT can make toward efficient/effective service delivery.
– Considerable experience of working in a performance led environment.
– Considerable experience of presenting complex information to a wide range of audiences.
– Computer Literate (word processing, database establishment and maintenance, presentation packages, e mail/internet).
Desirable Skills:
– Degree or postgraduate qualification in a management related or business-related discipline.
