Handyman


Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Handyman for a 6 month contract on a rate of £12.03/hour PAYE. This role will be based onsite.

 

Responsibilities:

 

– Carry out duties necessary for the good upkeep of the allocated work area. e.g. removal and disposal of refuse and recycling from inside and outside of building, sweeping leaves on paths/stairs, removal of rubbish from the grounds. Occasional cleaning of block staircases and windows in public rooms.

– Carry out duties pertinent to security and safety of locations, e.g. Fire Exit checks, Fire Equipment Checks (visual), weekly testing of fire alarm system, termly health and safety checks in all flats, carry out a weekly water flushing programme in vacant rooms/external taps.

– Complete all paperwork associated with works undertaken

– To ensure security of keys in possession at all times

– To ensure the security and privacy of members.

– Identifying potential faults, reporting them to site office staff

– Carry out initial investigation into repairs and act if appropriate, within Health & Safety Guidelines and in a way to ensure personal safety and that of others or if necessary, report repairs for further investigation to Assistant Manager.

– To assist with enquiries from students, guests, colleagues and external agencies (e.g. Fire Brigade, Contractors and Estates & Commercial Services) in a polite and courteous way.

– To participate in work training programmes as appropriate to duties to ensure work is carried out within Health & Safety Recommendations

– Occasional cover of site reception (answering queries, logging and issuing keys)

 

 

Essential Skills:

– Ability to communicate with staff and visitors in a courteous and diplomatic manner.

– Ability to work effectively as part of a team or unsupervised

– Customer care skills

– Excellent written and oral communication skills

– Manual Handling awareness

– Accuracy and attention to detail

– Willingness to participate in training to acquire additional skills.

– Basic DIY skills (e.g. changing light bulbs, replacing a sink plug, unblocking drains)

– 1 year’s relevant work experience, along with Standard Grades or equivalent vocational qualifications, or, 2 years relevant work experience without qualifications.

– Experience of dealing with people is essential.

– Previous experience in similar environment
