International Student Admissions Assistant
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit an International Student Admissions Assistant for a temporary one month contract, on a rate of £15.14/hour PAYE. This role is based full time on site in Sighthill.
Responsibilities:
– Managing enquiries from international customers in person, by email or by telephone.
– To arrange and undertake online and face to face interviews with international applicants to assess applicants’ suitability.
– To liaise with staff to set up interviews, auditions and screening assessments.
– To actively monitor and track applications to ensure they are processed within agreed timescales.
– Assisting with arrangements for incoming groups.
– Assisting with arrangements for international programmes delivered online.
– Liaising with internal colleagues including the international team, curriculum teams, finance and IT to ensure a smooth process for international applicants.
– Liaising with international clients, agents and students in advance of course start dates to gather information required.
– Providing a consistently high level of customer service support for incoming groups during their stay.
– Processing course applications and preparing offer letters.
– Supporting the induction for incoming groups, including preparing pre-arrival and arrival information, preparing and delivering induction presentations.
– Leading social programme activities.
– Providing support, including conducting support meetings, providing pastoral care, and tracking support offered.
– Facilitating payments and updating records of income and expenditure in line with Finance procedures.
– Suggesting and implementing improvements to systems, materials and procedures.
– Update systems and maintaining accurate records of checks completed and evidence seen.
– Check International qualifications using UK ENIC to determine UK equivalency.
– Provide data for management reports where necessary.
– Supporting the other activities of the International Team as required.
Essential Skills:
– Experience of working with people from a range of cultural and international backgrounds and non-native speakers of English
– Experience providing customer service and support – minimum 1 year
– Experience of data input and administrative skills – minimum 1 year
– Educated to HNC Level (SCQF Level 7) or equivalent
– Strong IT skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
– Strong oral and written communication skills including strong presentation skills and the ability to adapt to non-native speakers of English
– Strong attention to detail and ability to organise information
– Ability to work to own initiative and to prioritise workload especially at short notice
– The post holder should be flexible and responsive to change, as tasks may change as the activity of the team evolves and develops
– Able to demonstrate excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
– Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive student matters.
– Must go through PVG process
Desirable Skills:
– Knowledge of Edinburgh and Scotland local information and contacts
– Knowledge of the sector
– Knowledge of UK visas and immigration legislation
– Knowledge and awareness of cultural differences
– Working knowledge of one or more relevant foreign languages
