Lead Interaction Designer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Cardiff, is currently looking to recruit a Lead Interaction Designer for an initial 6 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £331.17/day (Inside IR35). This role will be predominantly remote working with occasional travel to Cardiff.
Responsibilities:
 
–  Be an experienced designer who can exercise own judgement to plan and lead activities in larger teams and on more complex services.
– Work with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts.
– Have responsibility across complex services.
– Help set direction and embed good practice within teams.
– Make important decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others.
 
Essential Skills:
 
– Educated to Master’s level or equivalent qualification / experience
– Practical experience, working at this level, across the range of work procedures and practices.
– Evidence of continuous professional development.
– Proficiency and experience in a designer role at a similar level, working with service owners and product managers to develop design concepts.
– Experience of interpreting evidence-based research and incorporating this into your work, understanding how this research impacts others.
– Experience of meeting performance targets and objectives and coaching and mentoring others to improve performance.
– Technical or functional understanding of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications and/or other bespoke software deployed within the organisation in order to provide system configuration, audit, technical, and/or functional support.
– Proficient in software tools which automate or assist part of the development process.
– Familiar with software that enable the user to capture, create, populate and manipulate data structures and where appropriate unstructured data.
– Familiar with methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of technical work products, test plans, business cases, architectures and any other key deliverables.
– Proficient in iterative methods and techniques to allocate and optimise the division of functions between the human, machine and organisational elements of IT systems and the functions themselves in terms of ergonomic impact.
– Proficient in the systematic and iterative design of the physical and cognitive interfaces to create an effective user experience in a software system, product or service with attention paid to variety of locations and access devices employed by users.
– Aware of the collaborative approach consisting of agile practices, processes, and procedures designed to facilitate rapid IT service and product delivery.
– Aware of how DevOps emphasizes people (and culture) and seeks to improve collaboration between development (Dev) and operations (Ops) teams, with the aim of shortening the systems development life cycle, to provide continuous release of high-quality software.
– Knowledge and understanding of the brand image and personality of the organisation’s products and/or services and the overall culture and personality of the work environment.
– Creativity skills in taking innovative approaches to problem solving and/or devising inventive and creative solutions.
– Interacting with People skills in establishing relationships, contributing to an open culture and maintaining contacts with people from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Effective, approachable and sensitive communicator in different communities and cultures.
– Adaptability skills to adapt communication style and approach to meet the needs of different audiences.
– Teamwork skills to work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.
– Attention to Detail skills to apply specific quality standards to all tasks undertaken to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete.
– Decision Making skills to make decisions at the appropriate time, taking into account the needs of the situation, priorities, constraints, known risks, and the availability of necessary information and resources.
– Commitment to supporting the organisation’s mission to encourage and embrace diversity and inclusion.
– A flexible approach to work in a hybrid working environment.
– Travel throughout Wales between sites, as required by the job.
– Standard keyboard skills.
 
Desirable Skills:
 
– Welsh language skills are desirable levels 1, and above, in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh.
