Lead Technical Trainer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Lead Technical Trainer on a permanent basis on a salary of £36,898 – £51,552/ annum – excellent benefits including: 33 Days Annual and Public Holiday Entitlement (41 days after 5 years’ service) , Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – SPT contribute 6.5% of your annualised pay, Group Life Assurance Cover, Employee Travel Pass Scheme .
This role will be based onsite in Glasgow.
Responsibilities:
– Lead on the development and delivery of technical training, competence assessment and internal verification; embedding a safety culture through continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
– Lead on the competence assessment and verification of maintenance staff through planning, managing and quality assuring the work of all maintenance assessors and verifiers including using direct observation, random sampling and standardisation meetings.
– Contribute to Training Needs Analysis (TNA) activities including Job and Task Analysis (JTA) and DIF (Difficulty-Importance-Frequency) Analysis to clearly define safety critical task learning outcomes and competence assessment methods.
– Use the output from TNA to effectively design training programmes and competency activities for Maintenance staff to ensure all competence and statutory requirements are satisfied.
– Develop and produce training and competence assessment materials for technical training programmes, ensuring that materials reflect any changes to regulations/legislation, technical specifications and relevant company documentation as applicable e.g. Rulebook, procedures, work instructions, etc.
– Deliver appropriate training programmes for staff including but not limited to induction, refresher and cross-skilling activity as required and in a timely and effective manner and manage the organisation of training resources such as accommodation and equipment.
– Work collaboratively, maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and suppliers for the development of others through on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring.
– Maintain accurate training and competence management records so to produce, manage and report succinct KPIs on training and competence management matters to the maintenance management team and wider organisation as required.
– Assist and contribute to any relevant internal or external audits involving demonstration of training and competence.
– Evaluate the effectiveness of training interventions and through the analysis of data provide feedback and/or recommend improvements.
Essential Skills:
– SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
– Training delivery qualification (City & Guilds, MOI or equivalent)
– Competence Assessor Qualification
– In-depth understanding of maintenance principles across the wide range of disciplines required in a fully integrated system
– Good knowledge of railway and other control safety critical applications
– In-depth knowledge of Quality, Safety, Environmental and Maintenance Instructions (ISO9000, OHSAS18001, ISO14001)
– Good knowledge of Training Needs Analysis techniques including Job and Task Analysis and DIF (Difficulty-Importance-Frequency)
– Experience of working in a safety critical environment
– Experience of service delivery demands and maintenance support environment
– Experience of developing and delivering technical training, ensuring safety is paramount
– Experience of risk-based competence management and assessment
– Well-developed coaching and mentoring skills to facilitate knowledge transfer and develop staff
– Having a change mindset to adapt and create changes to constantly improve performance
– Curious about new technology and systems, motivated to keep learning
– Good analytical and problem solving skills
– Good organisational planning skills
– Strong communication skills – both oral and written
