Power BI Developer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Livingston, is currently looking to recruit a Power BI Developer for an initial 3 month contract with option to extend on a rate of £450/day (Inside IR35). This role will be hybrid working with the requirement to attend the office two days a week and as required to suit operational needs.
 
Responsibilities:
 
– Review, Build and Publish existing Reports using Power BI, making suggestions on how they could be enhanced to provide more managerial insight where possible.
– Collaborate with service managers, analysts, and senior stakeholders to gather requirements.
– Create semantic models to enable self-service reporting.
– Translate business needs into technical reporting solutions liaising with the appropriate IT and Service contacts where required.
– Optimise report performance and usability, ensuring accessibility standards are met.
– Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through validation and testing.
– Implement appropriate row-level security (RLS) and access controls.
– Maintain documentation for datasets, reports, and processes.
– Provide training and guidance to end users on Power BI tools and dashboards.
– Be responsible for planning their work effectively with a strong commitment to delivering at a high standard.
– Participate in the Power BI Adoption Project where required to provide knowledge and experience in Power BI to help with discussions.
 
Essential Skills:
 
– Degree in Data Analytics, IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
– Strong experience with Power BI (Desktop & Service).
– Proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modelling.
– Understanding of ETL processes and data warehousing concepts.
– Ability to translate complex data into clear visual insights.
– Experience engaging with non-technical stakeholders.
– Comprehensive analytical skills to comprehend complex technical reports or system performance information.
– Self-motivated
– Sound organisation and time management skills.
– Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
 
Desirable Skills:
 
– Microsoft certifications (e.g. PL-300: Power BI Data Analyst) are desirable.
– Experience with SQL and relational databases.
– Experience within public sector.
– Knowledge of Azure Data Platform (Data Factory, Synapse, etc.).
– Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric / Power Platform.
– Awareness of data governance and regulatory requirements in the public sector.
