Security Officer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Security Officer for an initial 8-week contract, with the potential to extend, on a rate of £12.78 – £13.87 per hour. This role will be on-site in Clydebank, Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00.

- To ensure a safe and secure environment for all organisation’s staff, patients, visitors, guests and contractors, including their personal property as well as the property of the organisation and to provide knowledgeable and welcoming assistance to all who visit the facilities
- Control and issue of keys, electronic card access systems, and intruder alarm systems; deter/detect criminal activity; carry out regular patrols of all facilities, including the grounds. Keep up-to-date reports and records of all security-related incidents. Control and reporting of all CCTV activities.
- Car parking patrols; security of patient valuables. Attends rapid response in emergency situations, i.e. hours crash cart and blood collection.
- Control and delivery of mail in and out of the facility, control of normal working hours deliveries, the issue and registering of staff locker facilities and carrying out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the position. There is a requirement for out of hours working; There may be a requirement to assist in the duties within the wider Estates Team.
- Operating the CCTV systems (including monitoring and downloading any incriminating evidence to assist police or internal investigations), electronic card access system and the use of the employee identity card system; basic keyboard skills, including basic Microsoft packages, taking photographs and use of ID card software system.
- This also includes the daily information logbooks, fire escape route inspection log and car parking registers, lost and found property register, patient valuables, mail franking systems, radio communication system and emergency paging and telephone systems.
- The post holder will be expected to complete any relevant training as identified by line manager in relation to all elements of the job.
- Works with some supervision within Security Department SOPs – The level of Supervision will be managed by the Line Manager depending on business needs
- Exercises judgment when dealing with staff, patients, visitors and guests to the site and try to resolve any problems in a quiet and efficient manner
- Prioritise daily duties and schedules
- Security Officers deal daily with all levels of staff, patients/visitors, and contractors. As part of a team, communications are extremely important, and failure to pass on information or messages may mean an important/urgent duty may not be carried out.
- Work closely with staff throughout the site to assist them in any way they can
- Member of the internal fire response team
- Operating CCTV, DSE systems
- Substantial walking and standing while carrying out patrols of the facility and delivering mail
- Frequent light lifting and occasional moderate lifting involved in the uplift and delivery of mail/packages
- Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions to undertake external patrols and other duties linked to the post
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant duties, such as assisting nursing staff in the removal and storage of bodies in the mortuary
- Dealing with visitors/public and others – particularly those not abiding by site rules and procedures.
- Security staff need to be able to adjust quickly to each situation /person as they arise. The most challenging part of the job would be dealing with a member/s of the public who may be upset by bad news regarding a patient or is up.
Essential Skills:
- Previous security-related work experience would be beneficial, responsible, and trustworthy
- Able to use own initiative whilst working alone, able to understand and carry out specific security/safety related duties as and when required
- Basic PC literacy would be advantageous
- Good communication skills
- General education, including numeracy and literacy
- Experience in an environment where customer care is key
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
- Physically fit
- Ability to work well in a team
- Able to communicate well with patients, staff and visitors
- Flexibility in working hours
Desirable Skills:
- Conflict resolution qualification and or control & restraint training
- Security-related experience in a similar role
- Previous experience in healthcare/public-facing environment
- Operation of CCTV systems, card access systems
