Senior Communications Officer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Communications Officer until the end of March 2025 with potential to extend on a rate of £250-£289/day (Inside IR35). This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
– Work on a number of discrete projects to proactively increase the promotion, awareness and understanding of the organisation across Scotland. For example this may include expanding the website and educational or information resources; producing social media material such as video clips and graphics; implementing the organisation’s Communications and Engagement Strategy; and devising key metrics to evaluate and measure the success of this work.
– May also require supporting a communications manager (or communications managers trialling a job share arrangement). The role of communications manager covers, amongst other tasks, a wide range of media handling and monitoring, ongoing promotion of the organisation’s work, day-to-day social media activity, and support of the organisation’s Communications Committee.
– Form part of the organisation’s secretariat team which includes the secretary, legal officer, policy officers, research officers, communications manager, and business manager. In collaboration with other team members, you will work to identify and progress new opportunities to promote the organisation and its work in a variety of ways, as such, there will be opportunities to develop wider skills, for example in terms of strategic and financial management.
Essential Skills:
– As a minimum, you will have both communications training and experience.
– Excellent oral and written communications and engagement skills including experience of drafting or presenting a wide range of material and resources for the media, social media, stakeholders, and the public
– Excellent interpersonal skills to support productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
– Ability to offer constructive challenge in a productive way where appropriate
– Ability to work both autonomously and with colleagues to ensure a high volume and range of work is completed timeously
– Experience and knowledge of website development or content management systems, media handling, events handling, and a solid working experience of social media management
– Ability to proactively shape objectives and manage priorities productively with innovation and creativity
– Political acuity and an understanding of the criminal justice system
Desirable Skills:
– Experience of drafting easy-read material
– Project management skills
– Experience of procurement exercises
– Proficient in use of Umbraco and InDesign
