Senior Payroll Manager
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Swindon, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Payroll Manager for an initial 3-month contract on a rate of £26.70/hour (PAYE). This role will be hybrid based with 2 days required in the office.  
 
Responsibilities: 
 
–  Work in partnership with managers and the customer teams, to ensure all the personal and payroll data is available for inputting or uploading into the system, for the monthly payroll. Manage these actions, so the end to end process of data input, verification, filing and reporting, are all made within the appropriate deadlines.  
– Manage the accurate processing of monthly timesheets and overtime claims.  
– Ensure legal and organisational requirements in respect of IR35 and employment status are met.  
– Manage the pay review process.  
– Manage month-end and year-end duties relating to payroll close. 
– Ensure timely and accurate advice and guidance is provided to customer and stakeholder groups.  
– Manage the ongoing development of an effective working relationship with customers and staff.  
– Manage the liaison between payroll, human resources, budget holders and other departments to ensure flow and maintenance of employee data is managed effectively and properly recorded. 
– Assist Financial Accounts in the reconciliation of balance sheet subjective codes.  
– Champion continued development of the payroll team.   
– Review and implement improvements to workflows, templates and communication tools to improve payroll related services.  
– Ensure process maps and templates remain accurate and up to date.  
– Manage the Payroll Manager, train and develop colleagues and work closely with HR on all people matters.  Ensure organisational behaviours and values are upheld and promoted and ensure our legal obligations and the expectations set out in our policies are met.

Essential Skills: 
 
– Experience of a busy and variable payroll environment, including all technical and legal requirements.  
– Excellent and confident verbal and written communication. 
– Applies logical and critical thinking to develop effective solutions to issues.  
– Keen eye for detail.  
– Good organisation and time management skills. 
– Strong emotional intelligence leadership style.  
– Builds rapport with customers.  
– Creates and maintains strong customer relationships.  
– Actively listens. 
– Intermediate-level Microsoft Office user.  
– Experience of using an integrated payroll/HR system (preferably iTrent). 
 
Desirable Skills: 
 
– CIPP qualification (or equivalent).  
– Experience of payroll development and implementation. 
– Seeks ways to improve processes, use of resources and technology. 
– Exhibits a flexible and inclusive approach in contributing to team tasks.  
– Demonstrates an ongoing interest in the organisation. 
– Experience of conducting user acceptance testing.
