Site Reliability Engineer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh / Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Site Reliability Engineer for an initial 6 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £569/day (Outside IR35). This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
– Provide expert guidance on setup and support for current platform
– Continue to drive service improvements across security and system vulnerabilities
– Maintain existing platform to include future provisioning and best practice setup
– Ansible automation of OS and Application and deployments/upgrades
– Develop and maintain site monitoring using REST APIs, InfluxDB, Grafana & Nagios
– Regular RHEL, KVM patching and security hardening
– Red Hat Satellite management
– Ansible Automation Platform management
– CommVault backup administration and agent deployment/configuration for Oracle DBs, RHEL OS and MongoDBs
– Work with wider assurance function to ensure DR testing procedures are well established and performant
– Support PaloAlto XDR across Estate Requirement for Site Reliability engineering services
Essential Skills:
– Significant and demonstrable commercial experience of the following: Unix, RHEL 7/8/9 System administration, Red Hat Satellite administration, Automation – IAC Principles, Load Balancer technologies, e.g. HAProxy and keepalived and Shell scripting, specifically Bash and Perl
– Strong experience with container creation and management
– Docker, and various run time environments
– RHEL OpenShift or within Kubernetes environment – system administration
– Experience working with a CI/CD driven hybrid environment
– Knowledge of IAC principles and continuous development
– Knowledge and experience working with Git reversion control
– Pipeline configuration and deployment, Ansible Automation Platform / Git runners etc
– Experience with Monitoring and observability
– Deployment and configuration of Prometheus/Grafana/Cloudwatch
– Time series Database experience with Influx
– Full stack administration – TICK / elastic search / open search / Fluentd
– Experience of AWS Cloud based services
– Configuration and deployment of common AWS services, VPC, EC2, S3, NLB
– IAC approaches to AWS automation i.e. Terraform, CDK
– Agile working practices, including Kanban/Scrum, retrospectives, VFQ.
– Customer focused, through proactive engagement
– Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation
– Effective team working and technical decision making
– Designing and leading infrastructure projects
– Creativity – taking new approaches to tackle problems; embracing innovation and sharing knowledge with a range of stakeholders
– Strong documentation skills
Desirable Skills:
– General security design and architecture knowledge
– Support of MongoDB on RHEL
– Python, and integration with 3rd party API
– Backup – CommVault
– Oracle – KVM / LVM – Virtualisation
