Solutions architect
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh / Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Solution Architect for an initial 12 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £596/day (Inside IR35). This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
– Work as a team member of agile delivery teams or more traditional project teams and engage to understand and identify their context and scope of technical needs, then design appropriate solution/technical architectures.
– Regularly collaborate and find agreement with peers and senior stakeholders, providing direction and challenge.
– Be proactive in identifying problems and translate these into non-technical descriptions that can be widely understood.
– Act as the technical authority in information gathering and scene setting with stakeholders and managers.
– Undertake rigorous analysis to develop an understanding of solution and technology options to recommend the most appropriate approach across different environments and operating models.
– Act as consultant and ‘critical friend’ on best practice use of technology.
– Take ownership of technical architecture deliverables across the project lifecycle and ensure that solutions fit into the organisation’s technical landscape, meets established design patterns, standards, guardrails and architectural principles; highlight gaps and risks
– Collaborate with colleagues in cyber security to ensure security by design
– Review technical proposals from external suppliers and make implementation recommendations.
– Take ownership for implementing continuous improvement initiatives in the Architecture Practice
– Take on duties attached to appropriate roles within the Architecture Practice, such as being a Segment Lead for a group of related architectural work across teams and the architects involved.
– Take an open and collaborative approach to working and sharing knowledge.
– Support colleagues with technical expertise where required.
Essential Skills:
– Experience in the identification and resolution of architecture concerns arising from the implementation of integrated, commodity based digital solutions and platforms into the business.
– Experience of participation in defining business strategies and aligning these with the supporting technology required to achieve them.
– Demonstrable track record of participation in all lifecycle phases of implementing large scale ICT/Digital projects into a complex business landscape.
– Experience of both written and verbal communication of solution options, architectural models, detailed solution designs and discussion documents to audiences at all levels and of all technical backgrounds.
– Knowledge and experience of enterprise architecture frameworks for managing design governance, strategic development and stakeholder communication.
– Awareness of public sector procurement frameworks and processes.
– Some experience of leadership and ability to influence others.
– Awareness of Agile project and delivery management.
– Awareness of risk management techniques.
– Experience of working unsupervised in a dynamic environment with fluid priorities and high levels of uncertainty.
