Supported Accomodation Officer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in East Renfrewshire, is currently looking to recruit Supported Accommodation Officer for an initial 3-month contract on a rate of £15.63/hour PAYE (35 hours per week). This role will be based on site.  
 
Responsibilities: 
 
– To provide supervision, housing support, advice and assistance to households occupying temporary accommodation and B&B in an appropriate, sensitive and flexible manner.  
– To provide high quality housing support including support planning, housing options assistance, form completion and assistance with housing benefit ensuring service users are in receipt of appropriate welfare benefits.  
– To provide emotional support and assistance to residents as required and identified via their support plan.  
– To recognise, monitor and react to adverse behaviour appropriately and professionally, ensuring service users adhere to local policies and tenancy conditions.  
– To liaise with a variety of internal and external departments and services such as Education, Social Work and voluntary organisations to address the support needs of the individual and their families.   
– To supervise the property and surrounding area including liaising with CCTV, local police and community wardens where appropriate.   
– To have key holder responsibilities and work closely with site security staff communicating effectively and responding to incidents appropriately.  
– To undertake site visits to any of the temporary accommodation provided by the council, including B&B to ensure welfare of residents.   
– To process referrals for temporary accommodation liaising with the Temporary Accommodation Manager as required.   
– To check in new residents to any of the temporary accommodation provided by the council, including B&B for completion of the tenancy agreements and Housing Benefit forms   
– To valet the flats to the appropriate standard when a resident departs as well as undertake needle sweeps, deep cleans and pack and store personal belongings. As well as undertaking inventories when tenants arrive and ordering and replenishing any missing requisites.  
– To report all identified and known repairs and monitor completion timescales, ensuring high standards of the flats are maintained and any issues are reported and resolved.    
– To clean the main staff office daily to the appropriate standard as well as undertake other health and safety duties such as adhering to Legionella precautions and perform weekly tests.   
– To undertake administrative duties as directed by line management including ordering of consumables, collecting and maintaining petty cash, maintaining computer based files, file archiving and maintaining archive and organising gas checks and valets as required.   
– To contribute to and participate in handovers, team meetings, 1-2-1’s and service user reviews.  
– To liaise with local landlords under the private sector leasing scheme to resolve issues and report repairs  
– To offer tenancy sustainment and resettlement support as necessary via their housing support plan and review as necessary.     
– To undertake training and development as identified by the Temporary Accommodation Manager  
– To undertake any other duties commensurate with this post, as directed by the Temporary Accommodation Manager 
 
 
 
Essential Skills: 
 
– Experience of working with people with dependency and/or mental health problems or other vulnerable client groups  
– Experience of resettlement work in a housing related context   
– General understanding of welfare benefits.  
– Experience of interviewing and the provision of advice and assistance.  
– Sound IT skills.  
– Excellent negotiation skills  
– Ability to work to own initiative and under own supervision.  
– Good verbal and written communication skills.   
– Ability to plan and organise workload.  
– Diplomatic and sensitive.  
– Flexible approach to work to meet demands of service.  
– Able to cover additional hours in event of holidays and sickness.  
– Able to carry out valets to properties during voids. 
 
Desirable Skills: 
– Educated to standard grade or equivalent.  
– SVQ 3 Social Care or equivalent level qualification meeting the registration requirements for Housing Support with SSSC.  
– Experience of providing housing support.
