Van Driver
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Aberdeen, is currently looking to recruit 3.5 tonne Van Drivers for 6 month contracts on a rate of £12.60/hour PAYE. These roles will be based onsite.
Responsibilities:
– Drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle, including 3.5 tonne tipper trucks, Ride on Grass cutting machinery, small mechanical sweepers etc, in a safe manner
– Grass Cutting using a variety of different types of machinery and tools, including Ride on Mowers, pedestrian mowers, strimmers, etc
– Shrub Pruning using both hand tools and machinery
– General Gardening duties like edging, clearing leaves etc
– Ensure that the daily scheduled work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.
– Ensure that work standards and performance is maintained in line with industry standards
– Perform duties in compliance with work instructions and Health and Safety legislation.
– Ensure the safe use and control of work equipment
– Respects equipment, premises and property
– Communicate daily, with Environmental Chargehand and other members of the team.
– Undertake to engage in Continuous Review and Development meetings with Line Management
– Work outdoors in all types weather
– Be prepared to work in all areas within the City
– Drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle, including 3.5 tonne tipper trucks, Ride on Grass cutting machinery, small mechanical sweepers etc, in a safe manner
– Carry out all vehicle checks and required maintenance in accordance with manufacturers guidance, legislation and organisational Policy e.g First use vehicle checks and end of shift vehicle checks
– Complete relevant driver related paperwork, accurately and neatly
– Use and operate the full range of associated tools and equipment required in relation to Environmental Operations.
– Acts as a role model for customer service
– Promotes and upholds the organisation’s image at all times
– Undertake any required training, identified as being an integral part of the required tasks.
– Ensure that the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse is adhered to, so far as is reasonably practicable, especially regarding ensuring that roads, pavements and open spaces are kept free of litter and detritus.
– Operate in a safe manner, the full range of equipment, tools and machinery, whilst following guidelines and training.
– Ensuring that all work programmes and schedules are adhered to
Essential Skills:
– Must have a Full Class B UK driving licence
– Must be physically fit to undertake the full range of duties of the post
– Driving a wide range of vehicles, including 3.5 tonne tipper trucks, Ride on grass cutting vehicles, small mechanical sweepers
– A working knowledge and experience of Environmental Services teams and practices.
– The willingness to use the organisation’s digital platforms in relation to HR (CoreHr)
– The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
– The ability to organise and prioritise workloads to deal with simultaneous demands and to achieve deadlines.
– The ability to work proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to the Line Manager.
– Understanding of the legal requirements, constraints and compliances for driving vehicles
– Basic Health and Safety Legislation and safe working practices
Desirable Skills:
– Obtaining a B+E and/or C1+E licence following appropriate training and testing
– Passing a pre-employment driving assessment at preferred candidate stage of recruitment process
– Undertaking periodic post-employment driver assessments
– Working outdoors in all weathers
– Obtaining PA1 and PA6 Pesticide spraying certificates within 1 year
– Being fit, and maintaining a general fitness, to undertake the full range of duties of the post.
– Undertaking required training in all aspects of Environmental Operations, vehicles, associated tools, machinery and equipment, including chemicals (e.g Graffiti removal chemicals)
