Waste Operative
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Aberdeen, is currently looking to recruit 2 x Environmental Operatives for 6 month contracts on a rate of £12.30/hour PAYE. These roles will be based onsite.
Responsibilities:
– Grass Cutting using a variety of different types of machinery and tools, including Pedestrian Mowers, strimmers etc
– Shrub Pruning using both hand tools and machinery including hedge trimmers
– General Gardening duties like edging, clearing leaves etc
– Ensure that the daily scheduled work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.
– Ensure that work standards and performance is maintained in line with industry standards
– Perform duties in compliance with work instructions and Health and Safety legislation.
– Ensure the safe use and control of work equipment
– Respects organisation equipment, premises and property
– Communicate daily, with Environmental Chargehand and other members of the team.
– Undertake to engage in Continuous Review and Development meetings with Line Management
– Work outdoors in all types weather
– Be prepared to work in all areas within the City
– Use and operate the full range of associated tools and equipment required in relation to Environmental Operations including hand tools, pedestrian mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers etc
– Acts as a role model for customer service
– Promotes and upholds the organisation’s image at all times
– Undertake any required training, identified as being an integral part of the required tasks.
– Ensure that the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse is adhered to, so far as is reasonably practicable, especially regarding ensuring that roads, pavements and open spaces are kept free of litter and detritus.
– Operate in a safe manner, the full range of equipment, tools and machinery, whilst following guidelines and training.
– Ensuring that all work programmes and schedules are adhered to
Essential Skills:
– Must be physically fit to undertake the full range of duties of the post
– A working knowledge and experience of Environmental Services teams and practices.
– The willingness to use the organisation’s digital platforms in relation to HR (CoreHr)
– The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
– The ability to organise and prioritise workloads to deal with simultaneous demands and to achieve deadlines.
– The ability to work proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to the Line Manager.
– Basic Health and Safety Legislation and safe working practices
– The postholder must work in all weathers
– The postholder must operate all equipment in accordance with manufacturers guidance and with training given
– The postholder must be willing to work within every area of the City when required, even at short notice
– The post holder must have undertaken or be committed to undertaking the following within a specified period:
– Familiarisation with the organisation’s policies & procedures.
– Epilepsy Awareness Training
– Manual Handling training
Desirable Skills:
– Obtaining PA1 and PA6 Pesticide spraying certificates within 6 months
– Being fit, and maintaining a general fitness, to undertake the full range of duties of the post.
– Undertaking required training in all aspects of Environmental Operations, associated tools, machinery and equipment, including chemicals (e.g Graffiti removal chemicals)
