Head of Data Engineering
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation with various locations across England, is currently looking to recruit a Head of Data Engineering for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £940-£1040/day (Inside IR35). This role will be working from home with the occasional need to visit various sites.
Responsibilities:
– Recognise and share opportunities for data products and services for the organisation
– Be responsible for the build of data-streaming systems
– Coordinate the organisation’s analytic resource and set best practice and standards
– Apply knowledge of systems integration to their work
– Champion data engineering across the organisation and its external partners
Essential Skills:
– Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a management level. Alternatively, equivalent professional experience and portfolio of evidence demonstrating data warehousing, analysis and data management experience.
– Ability to manage a workflow and achieve short deadlines
– Ability to work in an environment where there are frequent interruptions
– Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality within the workplace
– Knowledge and understanding of General Data Protection Regulations (2018)
– Ability to work autonomously on a day-to-day basis, to work within broad occupational policies and targets and meet with manager at regular intervals to discuss progress, complex issues or areas of concern
– Advance level of MS Excel
– Intermediate level of MS Access, Word, Outlook, Visio and Sharepoint
– Experience of managing multiple databases
– Experience of designing, developing and managing data warehouses or other complex relational databases
– Experience of designing, developing and managing ETL processes
– Experience of working to tight deadlines
– Extensive experience of analysing complex data sets effectively in a variety of settings
– Experience of working with and combining data contained within different data sources
– Extensive experience of complex SQL code to include development of scripts, functions and procedures
– Experience of using and implementing SSRS and SSIS
– Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to better understand their data and reporting requirements
– In depth specialist knowledge of statistical and information data analysis
Desirable Skills:
– Qualification in Project Management e.g. PRINCE 2 Foundation
– Experience of using Power BI and creating reports/analysing data using it.
– Experience of maintaining database back end processes such as jobs, backups and linked servers
– Experience of procuring and/or building a data warehouse from scratch
