Contract length: 6 weeks with options to extend 
Pay rate: £13.37/hour (PAYE) 
Location: Campbeltown 

 

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Campbeltown, is currently looking to recruit a Handyperson for a 6 week contract with options to extend on a rate of £13.37/hour (PAYE).  

 

Responsibilities  

 

– As directed by the Manager, ensure that all fire alarm and all electrical safety tests are carried out as per the schedule, on a routine basis. 

– Undertake general tasks under the direction of appropriate person. These duties will include the maintenance of equipment, general handyperson and cleaning responsibilities of the workplace e.g. windows, waste bin areas and other areas delegated by management, general errands and store duties.  

– Maintenance checks and audits which include fire alarm.   

– Maintenance checks and record keeping duties, including water systems management and legionella prevention protocols. 

– Reporting any property defects to Property Services, via management, and overseeing repair works to completion. 

– Liaising with internal and external bodies, building maintenance staff and contractors, operation or heating and plant machinery.  

– Carrying out basic handyperson duties including minor internal repairs to fabric and furnishings including small painting tasks.  

– All aspects of maintaining healthcare equipment including dismantling, decontaminating and assembling beds, mattresses, and hoists. 

– Ability to programme / reprogramme call bell systems and alarm equipment. 

– Auditing systems and supporting the manager with management of systems.  

– Observing and arranging fuel delivery. 

– Store and stocktaking duties such as receiving deliveries, organising stock locations, shelf filing, palletizing and de-palletizing. 

– Undertake ground maintenance around the building, and in landscaped areas and similar open spaces of the residential establishment such as litter picking, clearing leaves, moss and debris, yard sweeping, waste management.  

– Work alongside care staff to ensure required stock levels are maintained and workload prioritised based on service demand. 

– Work alongside care staff in ensuring incontinence aid bins are managed and maintained. 

– To take responsibility for the daily checks of the minibus, report any defaults and repairs required and keep the vehicle clean.  Completion of associated paperwork. 

– Transport personnel, residents, goods and equipment as required. 

– Undertake construction and dismantling of moving and handling equipment.  In addition to the usual range of tools and equipment, powered machinery and light plant tools is required. 

– Attend all training relevant to the post and follow policies and procedures. 

– Will undertake other duties as direct by management. 

– Maintain positive and supportive relations with residents living in the carehome. 

– Ensure that standards of confidentiality are maintained at all times. 

– Support management to ensure standards are maintained, improvements developed and issues addressed in a timely manner, and in particular: 

– Ensure that all areas are maintained to the required standard specified.  

– Respond to any defective issues and ensure these are resolved in a timely manner. 

– Ensure that good communications are maintained with management and other building users including any external users.  

– Participate in team meetings and training events. 

– Undertake other duties appropriate to this job and grade, and as required by the line manager and ensure appropriate outcomes are achieved.  

 

Essential Skills: 

 

– Good general education 

– Be prepared to undertake training relevant to the post 

– Experience of working with others to achieve a goal. 

– Experience of working with a high emphasis on cleanliness and infection control 

– Good hand/eye coordination 

– General knowledge of equipment maintenance i.e. fault finding 

– Have a good grasp of health and safety requirements 

– The jobholder will be required to be PVG registered in relation to Adults. 

– Postholder is required to wear specified protective clothing. 

– Be able to travel to attend training courses as required. 

 

Desirable Skills: 

 

– Moving and handling  

– Understand COSSH regulations 

– Experience of keeping records 

– Worked with community/ hospital equipment previously 

– Worked in a store / warehouse environment previously 

– Be aware of policies and procedures. 

– Awareness of equipment guidance such as LOLER 

– I.T skills
