Maintenance Supervisor 

Contract length: 6 month 
Pay rate: £16.40 per hour 
Location: Dunoon 

 
 

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Dunoon, is currently looking to recruit a Maintenance Supervisor for a 6 month contract on a rate of £16.40.  

 

Responsibilities  

 

– To supervise a multi-disciplinary direct labour force. 

– To supervise contractors and their work force. 

– To supervise and schedule a planned electrical and mechanical, building and grounds maintenance programme in accordance with statutory, mandatory and economic requirements. 

– To undertake as a tradesman a comprehensive planned electrical and mechanical maintenance programme  

– To supervise the statutory control of legionella duties including: tank cleaning and disinfection, temperature monitoring and adjustment, Control valve maintenance. 

– To manage and address the legionella non-conformities and input information on the web-based L8MS legionella system. 

– Source materials, spares, raise and authorise purchase orders up to financial limit. 

– Supervise minor work. 

– To supervise and undertake maintenance and repair work on the building fabric. 

– To carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and commissioning of new electrical equipment and PAT testing of personal electrical equipment brought into the hospital for use by patients and personal electrical items brought into staff accommodation. 

– To provide a responsive fault finding and problem solving solution for day to day breakdowns on plant and equipment following requests initiated by customers via the Estates helpdesk. 

– To carry out alterations and improvements to services to agreed specifications. 

– To be aware of and comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, (encompassing risk assessments, method statements and Permits to Work), associated acts and subordinate regulations to minimise risk and protect patients, staff and public from danger/harm and from litigation. 

– Ascertain desired action using acquired skills and abilities to expedite best solution for desired outcome.  

– Install and commission machinery using installation manuals to ensure safety and compliance with IEE Regulations. 

– Occasionally measure and plan new installations and alterations checking drawings and site plans to determine best practice.  

– To give advice / instruction to staff & customers when electrical or mechanical systems are under repair or modification. 

– The post holder will follow Estates and polices.  

– Test and report on equipment for audit purposes e.g. Maintenance records. 

– Responsible for materials and plant used in carrying out duties. 

– To specify and obtain materials from local suppliers and to maintain operational stock in vehicle. 

– Lead in releasing trapped passengers from hospital lifts.    

– To participate in an out of hours emergency mechanical, electrical and building on-call service to maintain continuity of service. 

 

Essential Skills: 

 

– To have completed a full term electrical or mechanical or building trade apprenticeship. 

– To have completed a City & Guilds certificate or equivalent in an electrical or mechanical engineering or building trade subject. 

– To have completed 5 years as an engineering or building craftsperson in a hospital, building services or similar environment. 

– To have completed 3 years in an engineering or building supervisory role, involving the supervision of all trades staff, control and planning of work and procurement of materials. 

– To undertake an Estates training plan. Upon completion, to have the ability to competently carry out the duties of the post 

– To undertake additional technical training, as specified in the Estates training plan. Upon completion, have the ability to carry out safe and competent work in non-core skill. 

– To understand Estates building, building services and grounds maintenance and repair procedures. 

– Ability to carry out workshop activities and to undertake the safe use of hand and power tools. 

– Ability to carry out skilled repairs of the building fabric, building services, fixtures and fittings. 

– To undertake statutory and mandatory training e.g. Fire safety, moving and handling, violence and aggression, hand hygiene. 

– To undertake Estates Health and safety specialist subject training e.g. working at heights, confined spaces, asbestos awareness, legionella awareness, point of work risk assessments. COSHH. This forming part of the Estates training plan. 

– To undertake training to have the ability to release persons trapped in a lift. This forming part of the Estates training plan. 

– To undertake training to be a certified operator of powered access equipment (cherry picker). This forming part of the Estates training plan. 

– To undertake training on the safe use of the chemicals used within the Estates Department e.g. Huwisan, diesel, lubricants, solvents, adhesives, paints, weed killer, chlorine. This forming part of the Estates training plan. 

– To undertake portable appliance testing training. This forming part of the Estates training plan. 

– To undertake stock control using the “Kanban” system 

– To understand and have knowledge of Computers and data logging systems and devices. 

– Hold a full, current clean driving licence with relevant entitlement. 

– Ability to work in a high pressure environment. 

– Ability to test and isolate fire alarms.
